Passion for climate-friendly grape varieties
Wine and viticulture have played an important role in the Koch family from the Abthof winery for over 100 years.
Located about 18 km southwest of Mainz between the hills of Rheinhessen, the vines have been growing on very calcareous marl soil since the 13th century. vineyards cultivated by the Cistercian monks. For several years, Martin Koch has been responsible for the fortunes of the winery alongside his father Herbert.
In addition to classic varieties such as Pinot Gris or Pinot Blanc, the winemaker family has developed a passion for climate-friendly grape varieties. More than 30% of the cultivated vineyards are already planted with Solaris, Muscaris, Souvignier Gris or Monarch and more will be added in the coming years.
As a family winery, you want to bring the potential of creation from the vine to the soil to the vintage with all its aromas and facets to the glass.
